Filter Cloth

Meshes for filtration are usually manufactured with closely spaced wires. The mesh opening of the filter cloth – also known as the filter fineness or pore size – tends to be triangular and cannot be determined geometrically with simple measuring equipment. The filter fineness can be calculated from the geometry or obtained in tests – preferably under operating conditions. Filter cloths have finenesses of 5 – 500 μm, but depending on the filter cake that forms during the application, they can also achieve much smaller values.

Please feel free to contact us for the flow measurement of your filter cloths. With our modern testing equipment, we can determine the airflow.

We are looking forward to performing customs tests for your currently used meshes – including existing orders for DDD filter cloths, of course.

Plain dutch weave (plain weave)

For the plain dutch weave, the shute wire is woven closely to the previous wire in a plain weave manner (1/1). This simple dutch weave is the most common filter cloth. We can achieve special filtration effects and micron ratings by varying the diameter and tightness of the wire. The warp wires are thicker than the weft wires in this type of weave.

Reversed dutch weave

The name reversed dutch weave – also called PZ mesh – originates from the reversed size ratio of the warp & weft wires. In this filter weave, the warp wires are thinner compared to the weft wires. This type of weave has a high load capacity in warp direction due to a large number of warp wires next to each other. We can weave it as a plain or twilled weave. The pores are aligned diagonally to the mesh surface.

Twill dutch weave

Twill dutch weave (2/2) is more closely woven than the plain weave. This filter cloth can achieve lower micron ratings. Typically, the cloth surface is smoother than that of the simple dutch weave.

Atlas weave/ 5-heddle weave – (4/1)

Atlas weave is a twill weave in which respectively four wires are woven up and one wire down. The result is a smooth surface on one side and a rough surface on the other. In parts, the pores are rectangular, partly triangular.

The atlas weave is often preferred when the filter cake should be easily removable because this cloth has a very smooth surface.
